The Minneapolis Institute of Art is home to an outstanding collection of over 90,000 works of art from around the world. In the early 1900s, the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts conceived of an arts complex to serve the city. McKim, Mead, and White of New York City won a competition for a large wood and plaster model of the Institute of Arts. The Society’s plans for the complex included not just a museum but two wings, an art school, and an orchestra hall.
